Ours, plainly. Mohegan publishes gainifymax and also owns and runs this resort. Ownership alone filed it as card one; it was never measured against the other nine, and every stay here earns money for us.

Mohegan Sun occupies Mohegan reservation land along the Thames River, upstream of New London and just south of Norwich. Mystic, harbour and maritime museum included, makes an easy half-day outing.

Indoors, both towers feed into one long sheltered concourse, letting guests move between shops, dining rooms and the concert hall in slippers if they please. Earth Tower feels quieter and sits beside the expo halls; Sky Tower keeps the main pool.

Run by our publisher. Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation hired Mohegan as day-to-day operator of its Niagara resorts, this one included. Mohegan is not the owner, yet it has a commercial stake here, so the card is filed straight after Mohegan Sun rather than ranked by our editors.

This property crowns the slope above the Horseshoe Falls on the Ontario bank. Lookouts, the parkway and the boat landings below are reachable on foot or by the town's visitor buses.

A common rhythm: gorge and mist until dusk, theatre afterwards. Guests driving up from New York State cross an international frontier, so pack passports and expect slower bridges on long weekends.

Owned by the Oneida Indian Nation, Turning Stone sits just off the Thruway east of Syracuse, surrounded by dairy farms and gentle Oneida County ridges.

Rama First Nation hosts the resort on the narrow neck of land dividing two big lakes, deep in the stretch north of Toronto that locals simply call cottage country.

In summer the draw is boats and lakeshore villages; in winter, snowbanks and empty roads. Touring acts fill the entertainment centre in every season, so glance at its calendar early.

Caesars Windsor looks straight at Detroit, close to where the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel surfaces in Canada, with Windsor's riverside parkland stretching along the bank.

Reader queries

Which months treat this corner of the continent kindly?

May through mid-October flatters the falls, lakes and state parks, and the October colour in the Catskills, Finger Lakes and Allegany hills is worth planning around. Snow and hard frost arrive every winter, which tilts the choice towards Mohegan Sun, where everything connects indoors, and towards the cards listing an indoor pool. Holiday weekends and big concert nights push prices up.

Airport to lobby: what works?

Each card's margin names the runway we would aim for. Away from Niagara and Windsor, renting a car is close to mandatory. A few resorts run coaches or shuttles, but timetables shift, so get confirmation from the hotel before counting on one.

Check-in age on these ten cards: one rule or many?

Many, because two countries and ten managements are involved. Plenty of US resorts want the reservation holder to be 21; Ontario properties apply their own policy. Ring each hotel and get today's rule.

Will the nightly price be the final price?

Rarely. Expect some mix of resort or amenity charges, parking, sales tax and a held deposit. Request an itemised total from the hotel ahead of paying.

Are kids welcome?

Most of the ten accept families, yet pools, spa suites and certain venues carry age limits. Look up the rule for every area you intend to use.

Canadian reader, US hotel, or the reverse: anything special?

US cards usually quote American dollars and Ontario cards Canadian ones, so watch the currency at checkout. Any border crossing needs a passport or other accepted travel document.

Do you take bookings?
